A trip to the beautiful and ecstatic Tsum Valley hike, which stands out among the most impressive hikes of the Himalayas. Restricted area until 2008, the Tsum Valley is relatively little frequented by hikers, but the starting point is only a 7-8 hour drive from Kathmandu. Located in the majestic setting of the Ganesh Himal, the Shringi Himal and Boudha Himal, the Tsum Valley, is considered exceptionally as a blessed journey of the Himalayas to a natural and culturally fascinating valley offering art, culture and primitive religion. Diversified Tsum comes from the Tibetan word 'Tsombo', which means lively. The exuberant and wild landscape of the Tsum Valley flows through beautiful deep gorges, villages, gompas, chortens and the glittering snow at the top of the mountain. Relatively few hikers make this walk, so modernization and marketing have not affected the purity of the environment. A large part of the trek is walking on mountain trails and within the reach of people in good physical condition. You will begin to see your own life differently after spending a few weeks in a different homestay or in tea house en route.

Tsum Valley Trek is a recently opened trail, compared to other popular areas; this region is relatively pristine with less battered roads. Although the region presents difficult terrain, steep slopes and a very simple trip. Since the last couple of years, this trek is gaining much popularity and offers the best trekking experience in the Nepalese Himalayas. During our journey, everything we find on our way gives an image of Tibetan Buddhist culture. The coincidence of your visit with the local festivals of Dhacyhang, Lhosar and Sawa Dawa will be the perfect time to observe the unique local culture and traditions. This enchanting journey will take you to the majestic surroundings of Kang Guru, Cheo Himal, Ganesh Himal, Boudha Himal, Sringi Himal and Hiunchuli. In any case, when visiting this Tsum Valley, we can have a wonderful view of the Mountains, the hill and an incredible forest. We will be welcomed in a traditional way, where we will have the opportunity to have a local meal. In general, we will be puzzled by an old culture.

Day to Day Itineary Details

Upon arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative of the Taleju Adventure who will then drop you off at the hotel. After check-in, we rest, refresh ourselves and even visit the office. We can also walk through the streets of Thamel, a tourist centre in Kathmandu city. In the evening, a welcome dinner is organized by the Taleju Adventure where you will be served with an excellent authentic Nepalese cuisine that will familiarize you with the culinary culture of the country. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Today, after breakfast, we begin a tour to many of Kathmandu's most historical and spiritual attractions. Some of these sites are considered as World Heritage sites; including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous 'Temple of the Monkeys' (Swayambunath) and the Buddhist sanctuary (BuddhaNath), one of the largest stupas in the world. In the evening, there will be a pre-trip discussion during which we will meet with our hiking leader and other team members. Overnight in Kathmandu.

A 7-8 hour trip from Kathmandu to the Western Highlands takes us to Arughat through Dhadingbesi, the Dhading district headquarters. On the dirt road of Dhadingbesi, with the splendid view of green hills, we arrive at Arughat, our starting point of the trek. Arughat is an important city in the region and is divided into two parts by the Budhi Gandaki River that flows between them. Night in Arughat.

We cross the bridge at Budhi Gandaki and began our trek from the western part of Arughat. We follow the paved street to the north through the bazaar (market). We cross the hydroelectric plant, the rice and millet fields to Mangaltar and, through the woods, we reach Shanti Bazar. The road to the Budhi Valley Gandaki now becomes steeper and the walk is more difficult when we cross the Arkhet Khola on a suspension bridge that passes through the shops of Arkhet Bazar. From there, the road goes down to Soti Khola. Night at the campsite in Soti Khola. We will spend the night in Soti Khola.

We cross the bridge and then cross the beautiful forests of Sal, then climb a ridge over the immense Budhi Gandaki with huge rapids. The rocky path then makes its way up and down between two tropical waterfalls on a steep rocky path that hangs on the side of a cliff. We then end up going down with some terraced rice fields and then move upwards to the Gurung village of Labubesi. Then we climb behind a rocky peak, where the valley opens and Budhi Gandaki meanders between large gravel bars. Fall on the sandy bed of the river and we walk on rounded stones before climbing a side ridge. We descend again towards the river and cross towards the village of Machha Khola. We will spend the night in Machha Khola.

The narrow road here makes some ups and downs and, finally we cross the Tharo Khola, flowing into a rocky ravine, then we reach to Khorlabesi. After some ups and downs, again there is a small thermal spring at the edge of the road, from where we arrive at Tatopani. From Hot Spring, we climb another ridge, then cross Budhi Gandaki on a suspension bridge. Climb up a wide and well-designed staircase, then cross a landslide and cross a ridge in the direction of Dobhan. Crossing a suspension bridge in the Dobhan Khola, the trail climbs up that leads to Duman. Going up towards Budhi Gandaki, we arrive at Yaru Khola. Crossing a suspension bridge in the Yaru Khola, we climb the stone stairs, then descend to the river and climb back up several stone steps that lead to Tharo Bharyang. Then we cross the west bank of the Budhi Gandaki to climb a ridge and skirt the river, then climb to the village of Jagat. Night at Jagat.

After completing the ACAP procedure, we climb a rocky ridge to Salleri, then descend to Sirdibas. The valley widens a little while the trail continues to Ghatta Khola. We continue uphill to a long suspension bridge then go up to Philim, a great Gurung village. The Philim Valley is well known for its Japanese made school and its police station. We walk past Philim, to the north, through a forest with a view of the narrowing valley, we arrive at Chisopani. Night in Chisopani.

After Ekle Bhatti, we cross the gorge and walk for half an hour on the right side to see the large and beautiful waterfall and enter the pine forests. We descend down to the trail to the Tsum Valley. We climb through the pine and rhododendrons forest afterwards where we can admire the views of the Himalchuli Mountains at 7893m and Boudha Himal de Lokpa, a pretty village. After we pass Lokpa village, then go down half an hour towards Lungwa Khola and climb the challenging Jick Jack Trail two hours further north through pines and rhododendrons forest to Gumlung. Crossing Siyar Khola, we finally arrive at Chumling, from where we can see Shringi Himal, visit the old Chumling Gompa and the cobbled streets of the village. We will spend the night in Chumling.

After crossing the suspension bridge on the opposite bank we can enjoy the magnificent view of Ganesh Himal. After strolling past Rainjam to Serpu Khola crossing another bridge, we reach the village Gho. Another climb continues for 2 hours to reach the town of Chhokangparo. If time allows it; we can enjoy the views of Himalchuli at 7893 meters and Ganesh Himal at 7140m. We will spend the night in Chokhangparo.

When we are climbing above Chokhangparo, it is always better to pay attention to altitude problems. We pass through the suspension bridge to Lamagaon to reach Rachen Gompa, also known as Nunnery Gompa. We make a little visit and then we cross Shiar Khola. After we continue our walk through the villages of Lar (micro hydroelectricity), Phurbe and Pangdun. Leaving the old historical stupa of Buddha in the way that crosses the village of Chhule, we stroll again upstream and cross the bridge to finally reach the Nile. If you are considering it, we can make your visit to the famous Chhule Monastery, which is located at the top of the region. We will spend the night in the Nile.

Now we are almost near the Tibetan border. We walk to the west bank of the valley through Tibetan landscapes and go up to Mu Gompa. We also visit the monastery and then we also visit Dhephu Doma Gompa. We will spend the night in Mu Gompa.

Today we visit the entire Mu Gompa area. Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region. The Gompa is located in the highest and most remote part of the Tsum Valley. After exploring the Mu Gompa area, you can also consider the option of going to the Pika Himal base (4865 m). We will spend the night in Mu Gompa.

Return through Chhule and Phurbe, on the east coast of Shiar Khola, finally, we arrive at the village of Burgi. The town of Burgi is a small and beautiful town. Ascend to the Milarepa cave, The Milarepa cave (piren phu) is known for its fascinating landscapes of the Poshyop glacier, Kipu Himal and Churke Himal. Night at Burgi Village.

After early morning breakfast, we continue our walk looking at the lush vegetation and descend to Chhokang Paro. We continue descending to Gho. After going down further, we reach the bridge of Sarpu Khola. Trekking along the lower Tsum Valley takes us back to Chumling. We will spend the night in Chumling.

The trail continues to Lokpa. After having lunch to the south on a flat road, we continue on. After enjoying the magnificent samba waterfalls finally, we will arrive in Philim after 6 or 7 hours of trekking. A road crosses the village of Phillim that leads to the base camp of Ganesh Himal. We will spend the night in Philim.

Today our trek starts from Philim to Khorlabesi through Jagat and Tatopani. We get off at Sirdibas and finally get to Jagat. Furthermore, walk later it takes us to Yaruphant. The arid Tibetan climate is now giving way to subtropical green vegetation. We continue the trekking in Dobhan and finally, we reach to Tatopani. There is a thermal source in Tatopani. If this interests you, you can immerse yourself in the hot springs and relax your tired muscles by immersing in the hot springs. Otherwise, we continue up and down from Tatopani until we reach Khorlabesi. Night at Khorlabesi.

Today after early morning breakfast we cross the Tharo Khola which flows into a rocky ravine. We descend again towards the river and cross towards the village of Machha Khola. We walk along the Budhi Gandaki River to reach the Gurung village of Labubesi. Then we pass through the two waterfalls on a steep rocky path at the edge of a cliff. Then we arrive at Khursane. We then walk along the ridge over Budhi Gandaki and cross the Sal forests. Finally, then we cross the bridge to reach Soti Khola. Overnight in Soti Khola.

Early in the morning after breakfast, we climb to the ridge of Kyorpani. We walk to the waterfall and trek further to reach Arkhet. Then we cross the Arkhet Khola and the Budhi Gandaki valley. We finally arrive at Sante Bazaar after passing through the forest of Maltar. Finally, passing by the hydroelectric power station that follows the stone streets, we arrive at the Arughat bazaar. Then we return to Kathmandu, along the banks of the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers, with a magnificent view of the green hills, mountains, terraces and villages on both sides of the road. To celebrate the success of our trip, we will have a farewell dinner at night. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Your adventure in Nepal ends today. There is nothing more to do than exchange emails with other travellers and organize photos. If you have more time, you can go shopping or sightseeing in Kathmandu. A representative of the Taleju Adventure will take you to the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On the way back, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
